NB the wii remote needs to be held in different positions depending on whether a Nunchuk is used:
--For the Wii Remote without Nunchuk, hold the Wii Remote sideways with the +Control Pad to the left and the 1 and 2 buttons to the right. The 2 button will function as the selection button.
--When the Nunchuk is plugged in, the A button is assigned as the selection button.
--More information on the different controller configurations can be found on page 5 of the game's instruction manual.
